We are dedicated to quality submission grappling in a safe and fun environment. Our Vision originated as a simple student org in 2005, but we have since grown and developed into a RecSports sponsored UTSCA sport club. All University of Texas undergrad students and grad students are welcome. Heel Hook'em!

FAQ

No! In fact, most of our members begin their BJJ journey with us. Classes are structured to have both beginner and advanced sections so you will never feel out of your element.

These are the two ways to practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Gi: Practitioners wear a tough two-piece garment that is sealed with a belt. Gripping of clothing is allowed which opens up many new submissions.

No-Gi: Practitioners wear form-fitting athletic clothing, preferably with no pockets, and aren’t allowed to grip clothing items.

Classes begin with a 15 minute group warm-up/stretch session, then instruction with breaks for drilling. Afterwards we will drill positionals then have live rolls for the last quarter of practice. On Sundays there will be an extra hour of open mats after practice concludes!

Although we do encourage you to, tournaments are entirely optional. You make your time with us as competitive or casual as you want.

Should you choose to compete, UTBJJ will sponsor your registration fees, covering all or most of the costs.
